The Union Cabinet approved the National Policy on Electronics 2012.
The objective of the policy is to make the domestic electronic hardware manufacturing segment a $400 billion industry by 2020. Under the policy, the government will take steps to create an ecosystem for a globally competitive Electronic System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) system. The sector will require an investment of $100 billion. It will generate employment of 28 million persons.
